This salt free taco seasoning is a fantastic alternative to store-bought blends. You can make a single batch, or bulk blend this spice to store in the pantry for many taco nights to come.
We love homemade tacos, but never use store-bought taco seasoning due to the high sodium content! For us, all our favorite taco recipes shine with a homemade taco seasoning that has much less sodium than store-bought taco seasoning packets. This spice blend has a delicious mix of salt-free pantry staple spices.
This low-sodium taco seasoning is so versatile – you can mix it with ground beef or ground turkey to make tacos, toss it with low sodium chicken strips for fajitas, or steak for carnitas, or mix it with beans for a healthy vegetarian burrito. Mixing and blending your own spices is one of the best (and affordable) ways to spice up your life without salt.

What’s In This Low Sodium Taco Spice Blend?
See the recipe card below for a full list of instructions and ingredient amounts!
- Salt Free Regular Chili Powder – some chili powder blends do contain salt, so I like this no-salt version to limit the sodium. Since chili powder is one of the main ingredients, I opt for using a good one.
- Cumin – for a delicious savory spice that bring classic taco seasoning flavor.
- Smoked Paprika: give an additional smoky flavor to your taco meat with 0 mg of sodium. You can use regular paprika too.
- Oregano – you can use dried oregano or fresh Mexican oregano.
- Garlic Powder: a pantry staple ingredient with great flavor!
- Onion Powder: adds a delicious and savory flavor to this dish as well.
- Red Chili Flakes or Cayenne pepper: for a little heat! I like to add a few shakes of chili pepper to this recipe to give this dish a nice complex depth of flavor.
- Lime Juice Powder- One of my favorite low so hacks – this powdered lime juice adds so much flavor with just a pinch.
