Ingredients You’ll Need
See the recipe card below for a full list of instructions and ingredient amounts!
- Ground Beef – I like to use 95% lean ground sirloin, but you can use any ground beef you prefer. Make sure to use unseasoned beef, as some pre-packaged blends can contain spices with added salt or preservatives.
- Eggs – help the patties stick together when grilled. Eggs naturally have about 60g of sodium each.
- Brown Sugar: I like to use a dark brown sugar for my recipes because I find it has a really nice deep molasses flavor.
- Low Sodium Worcestershire Sauce: for that unbelievably tangy umami flavor that bring the classic taste to these burgers! I love using this low sodium Worcestershire sauce in all kinds of recipes, at only 45mg sodium per serving, a little goes a long way on flavor.
- Smoked Paprika: give an additional depth of flavor to this dish.
- Garlic Powder: Also a major pantry staple ingredient that gets used in our house daily! I love this garlic powder and add it to a lot of recipes that I would use fresh garlic in too.
- Onion Powder: adds a delicious and savory flavor to this dish as well.
- Low sodium hamburger buns – if you’re having a hard time finding low sodium buns, I recommend using lettuce wraps, low sodium English muffins, or enjoying the burgers bun-less.
- Toppings: lettuce, sliced tomatoes, my low sodium mustard recipe, ketchup, or low sodium mayo – and of course sliced or grilled onions.
How To Make This Recipe
- In a large mixing bowl, add the thawed ground beef, egg, brown sugar, low sodium Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder. Mix well to combine the mixture.
- Divide the mixture into quarters in the bowl, and form each quarter into one burger patty.
- Place the burger patties on a plate in an even later. Cover and refrigerate until cooking.
- To cook, grill or cook the patties on a hot skillet/griddle pan for 6 minutes on the first side, and about 4 minutes on the second side. Allow the meat to reach 160 degrees Fahrenheit internally.
- Serve on a low sodium bun or a lettuce wrap, and add your favorite toppings: low sodium mustard, ketchup, mayo, sliced tomato, lettuce, and raw or grilled onions.
Low Sodium Ground Beef
This low sodium burger patties recipe is a great way to cook with ground beef. You can stock up if your local butcher or store has ground beef on special, and make a big batch of these patties to freeze for later. Ground beef naturally contains some sodium – about 300 grams per pound, or about 60-75 grams per serving.
It’s also great if you’re heading to a party, potluck, or BBQ – you can BYO patties, and have the host grill them up for you if you are following a special diet. From low sodium burgers, to chili, to sloppy Joe’s browse all of our low sodium ground beef recipes here!
