How Do I Make Mustard Without Salt?

  1. Using a mortar and pestle, or a spice grinder, ground the mustard seeds to your desired texture. If you like a chunkier mustard like mine, leave some whole seeds in there. If you like a finer mustard, then grind them all the way.
  2. To a bowl or a mason jar, add the mustard seeds, mustard powder and water, and allow mustard sit for up to 12 minutes.  For a spicy mustard, let the mustard sit in the water for 8 minutes. For a more milk mustard, let the mustard soak for 12 minutes.
  3. Add the vinegar, honey and turmeric, and stir well to combine.
  4. Refrigerate, and allow mustard to sit for up to 24-48 hours before consuming.  It will be spicy at first, but will the flavors will mellow as it sits.

  1. Love the idea of this recipe. I am also diabetic. Does it require honey? Hoping I can use another sugar free sweetener.
