Low Sodium Trader Joe’s Guide: Best Meals and Snacks!
Trader Joe’s is a fantastic place for meals, snacks, product, and treats – and there are many great low sodium finds in the aisles! We outlined a few of our favorite low sodium and no-salt-added products that always end up in our cart.
We love shopping at Trader Joe’s for their organic produce, great variety of snacks, wonderful flowers, and great seasonal products. If you live near a TJ’s, keep an eye out for the products below!
Trader Joe’s has always been my favorite grocery store, they offer so many great, new products throughout the year. Their prices are reasonable (especially on organic options) and they have really tasty options for those following a low-sodium diet.
One thing to note: some products can be seasonal, and some products aren’t sold in all stores. Also, there are a few products where ingredients and nutritional information can vary based on the location they are sold in (like their bruschetta). Always check the labels at your store before purchasing.
In this guide, I’ll share a few of my favorite low so Trader Joe’s finds! If I missed any, please share them in the comments below.
Produce
Trader Joe’s has a lot of fresh regular and organic produce – I always stock up on a few of my favorites:
- Spinach and arugula
- Bell peppers
- Apples (they have many varieties all year, I can find my favorite Jazz Apples in the fall)
- Avocados to make my favorite low sodium guacamole.
- Bananas
- And they have a great selection of cut and pre-chopped veggies, coleslaw and shredded vegetable mixes, onions, and potatoes.
- Fresh herbs
Nuts, Dried Fruit, & Trail Mixes
TJ’s has many unsalted nuts, no-salt-added trail mixes, and dried fruits. I especially love their spiced nuts.
All of the products in this section can be found in the nut aisle.
Product: Thai Lime & Chili Cashews / Honey Sesame Cashews
Sodium: 65 mg sodium / 70 mg sodium
Aside from nuts, this tasty trail mix has dried fruit and also white chocolate chips for a little added sweetness! This makes a fantastic snack – I like to pack a small bag in my lunches during the week.

Dips & Dairy
There are a few great low sodium options in the dip section – their mild and hot pico de gallo both are low in sodium. The Mediterranean hummus is also a low so dip and SO good!
I like adding salsa into my favorite low sodium 7 layer dip too.

For dairy, there are many low sodium options for dairy and non-dairy milks, yogurts, sour creams, and eggs. I like their yogurt varieties, and always pick up some unsalted butter while I am there!

Frozen Items
TJ’s frozen section is a great place to find frozen fruits which are great in smoothies, vegetables, grains like white and brown rice, and (our favorite!) hash browns.
I use these frozen fruits almost everyday in my favorite low sodium green smoothie.
Products: Wild Blueberries, Pineapple Tidbits, and Mango Chunks

And the hash browns are my favorite – we make these for brunch almost every week! I like baking them in the oven until they are crispy and delicious.

Just a note: this is the lowest sodium shrimp I’ve been able to find anywhere! While the sodium per serving is a bit higher at 160 milligrams, it’s for 20 shrimp. It’s in the frozen section, and pre-cooked so it’s great to throw into stir fries or pastas.

Meats & Cheeses
Aside from the chicken I listed below, TJ’s sells many varieties of chicken, turkey, and beef. The benefit of shopping at Trader Joe’s for these items is that all the meats have a nutrition label, so you can see exactly how much sodium is in each!
I picked up some white meat on my last trip: chicken wings, boneless skinless chicken breasts, and some ground turkey.
Products: All Natural Chicken Wings & Breasts / Ground Turkey
Sodium: 65-80mg for the chicken, 70mg for the turkey.
And they have great cheeses as well. I like their mozzarella balls, which I use to make my favorite mini caprese tomato basil appetizers. Their Swiss & Gruyere blend is also one of the lowest sodium shredded cheeses I’ve been able to find.

Sodium: 75mg/ 85mg
Also honorable mentions: plant-based proteins! I absolutely love their extra firm tofu and tempeh – which are very low in sodium and delicious!

Pantry Items
TJ’s pantry items are amazing! They have great low sodium soup & broth options, pastas, condiments, no-salt-added spices, and grains.
I like this tomato/pepper soup – it’s great by itself, but also I like it as a pasta sauce too.

Sodium: 105 mg
Their new Thai wheat noodles are great for soups or stir fries. While most of their pasta options have 0mg sodium, these are a lower-sodium version of Thai noodles. I like adding them into my low sodium ramen soup recipe!

We always grab these taco shells – which are great to load up with meat spiced with our low sodium taco seasoning.

Bread
Low sodium bread can be hard to find! Luckily, there are some great options at Trader Joe’s for you – their English Muffins and sandwich thins are great for breakfast sandwiches, to use as hamburger buns, or just for sandwiches for lunches or dinners.

And the best part of Trader Joe’s: snacks! I love their sweet and savory snack options – I am posting some of my favorite savory/salty snacks today, but there are so many good ones in store.
