An easy one-pan pasta sauce with goat cheese, loaded with flavor in each bite. Goat cheese is lower in sodium than many other cheeses, making it a great low sodium option. I love serving this with a big side salad with salt-free vinaigrette and easy low sodium garlic bread.
You can still enjoy a delicious cheesy baked pasta on a low sodium diet with this tasty homemade goat cheese pasta. It’s creamy, tangy, bright, and fresh – loaded with plain goat cheese, cherry tomatoes, and herbs.
This is one dinner that is easy enough to make on a weeknight, but fancy enough to serve to guests. Plain goat cheese can be low in sodium (the goat cheese I used had 80mg of sodium per once ounce) and you can boost the flavor of the sauce with roasted garlic, herbs, and lemon juice.

Low Sodium Pastas
Pastas and noodles are one of our staples on a low sodium diet – most have 0mg sodium. However, it can be tough to find a store-bought sauce, so I love using bright fresh flavors (like garlic, herbs, and goat cheese!) to make my own.
This easy goat cheese pasta is perfect for a tasty meal for the family, and also great to make for company if you are having guests for dinner. This low sodium tomato sauce takes 5 minutes to prep, and bakes for 40 minutes, so you can enjoy that time to prep sides or a salad. Browse all our low sodium pasta and sauce recipes here!
Ingredients You’ll Need
See the recipe card below for a full list of instructions and ingredient amounts!
- Goat Cheese – I love the sharp, tangy flavor of goat cheese. It works so well paired with the sweet tomatoes and garlic. Aim to buy plain goat cheese, and not one with added seasonings (which may contain salt). I like this goat cheese which 80mg of sodium per ounce, and I used 4 ounces total! Making this a yummy and low sodium pasta bake.
- Pasta – You can use any medium shaped pasta you prefer, like penne, medium shells, or rotini. I used cavatappi, which is easy to scoop up with your fork, and is ridged to keep cheesy sauce in every crevasse.
- Onion
- Garlic
- Cherry Tomatoes
- Olive Oil
- Thyme – I used fresh thyme as we have it growing on our property, but this dried thyme would be a perfect substitute.
- Lemon Juice – freshly squeezed, if possible.
- Pepper
How To Make This Recipe
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a 8 x 8 inch baking dish, add the goat cheese, chopped onions, garlic, cherry tomatoes, olive oil, thyme, garlic powder, and pepper. Toss well to combine ingredients together before baking.
- Bake the goat cheese and vegetables together for 40 minutes until they brown and begin to bubble in the oven.
- Meanwhile, bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook pasta according to package instructions. Reserve 1/2 up of the pasta water cooking liquid, drain the remainder of the liquid, and set aside.
- Once goat cheese and tomatoes have done baking, carefully remove baking dish from the oven. Add the lemon juice, pasta cooking water, and the cooked pasta to the baking dish, and toss all the ingredients together until well-combined. Serve immediately, and enjoy!
