This dressing is proof you don’t need salt for a great flavor! This dressing uses balsamic vinegar, fresh garlic, olive oil, sweetener (I used maple syrup but you can use sugar, honey, or any sweetener you prefer), and Dijon mustard for a kick.

I love this low sodium balsamic dressing recipe, which is a bright & fresh addition to any salad you want to dress. I love serving this salad any time of year – it’s great in the summer with fresh tomatoes and low sodium mozzarella, and fantastic in winter with an orange and arugula salad.

Ingredients In Low Sodium Balsamic Vinegar Salad Dressing

- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Balsamic vinegar – a great flavor addition with 0mg sodium per serving! I used a basic balsamic for this recipe, but you can use an aged one too.
- Fresh garlic
- Maple syrup: for natural sweetness without the refined sugar, I’d recommend using a natural maple syrup over sugar in this recipe. Make sure you use pure maple syrup which has just 5mg of sodium per serving, and not ‘pancake syrup’ which can contain additives and preservatives.
- Whole Grain Mustard – for a really nice flavor and texture. Using a good mustard makes all the difference, and I like the texture of whole grain mustard in this dressing. The mustard contains the most sodium in this recipe (100mg for 1 teaspoon). If you can find a lower sodium mustard or Dijon, you can substitute it if you need to.
- Orange Juice, or lemon juice
- Black Pepper
How To Make Low Sodium Salad Dressing with Balsamic Vinegar
- In a medium bowl (or mason jar with airtight lid), add the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic, mustard, maple syrup or sweetener, orange juice, and pepper.
- Mix well to combine all ingredients – the dressing will turn thick and creamy.
- Pour into your favorite salad, or refrigerate in an airtight container and use within a week.

This recipe makes about 1 cup of dressing total, and 4 1/4 cup servings. The nutritional information estimated for this recipe is 26mg of sodium per each 1/4 cup serving.

- ½ cup olive oil
- ⅓ cup balsamic vinegar
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup or other sweetener of choice (like honey or sugar)
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard or low sodium mustard
- 1 orange juiced, or substitute 1 lemon
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
